I-90

the log trucks

the semis bear down

against the coming storm

get the last load in

before night fall

they whine with each

of their eighteen wheels

they overtake me, barrel

toward both horizons

get home

and off this stretch

of open road

before snowfall

they repeat

before the world goes blank

before the way is lost
