White-Knuckled
I grip the wheel tighter
when the road disappears.
I think: if I hold fast
enough, everything will stay
in place— the work, the people,
the weather, the car.
But nothing listens
to hands clenched in fear.
Some things require a soft
release, like breath, like forgiveness,
like the way a hand opens
to receive what it was never
meant to control.
