Turn to Wonder
We’d been at it again,
voices drawn tight as wire.
Then something in me paused—
a small, uncertain space
between one word and the next.
I find myself wondering
how we got here,
how you came to hold so firmly
to something I can’t quite make sense of.
And how this—of all things—
can stir my anger so quickly.
Is it you? Or me?
Then the window stirs,
and a bit of wind brushes my arm,
my face—
light, almost nothing—
and suddenly I remember
the rest of the world:
trees moving, traffic in the distance,
a bird calling once, then gone.
You feel it too.
We both breathe that wind in,
and the room grows larger.
