Debt Erased, Relationship Pending

Debt Erased, Relationship Pending

We’ve spent centuries

trying to explain the cross,

turning love into a ledger,

sins into a balance sheet.

Forgiveness was simple—

debt erased, clean slate,

but reconciliation, now that

requires both parties to show up.

The real work was never debt removal—

that was grace without a receipt.

The work was sitting at the table,

breaking bread, looking each other

in the eye, rebuilding what was broken.

We built whole systems

to sell what was already given,

told people how to get clean,

how to balance the books,

never mentioning the feast,

Father waiting on the porch,

fatted calf prepared.

Forgiveness was never the point—

reconciliation was,

a family rejoined,

no fine print,
